El túnel de Viella forma parte de la concesión entre Lérida y Francia, a través del Valle de Arán. El túnel inicial se terminó de construir en el año 1948 y había llegado a un nivel cercano a su saturación lo que motivó el Proyecto actual aquí descrito en sus facetas principales, dado que el existente no permitía mejoras significativas de diseño y capacidad. El túnel nuevo discurre paralelo al anterior y se ha construido en dos años, habiendo sido inaugurado recientemente. El artículo describe las obras realizadas y su proceso constructivo, así como las principales instalaciones acometidas, tales como ventilación, iluminación, seguridad, radiocomunicaciones, accesos, etc.

Abstract

The Viella tunnel, running throught the Aran Valeey, forms part of the concession between Lerida and France. The initial tunnel, completed in 1948, was reaching saturation point and could not be significantly improved to increase capacity. This situation gave rise to the present project outlined in this article. The recently opened tunnel was built in two years and runs parallel to the existing tube. The article describes the work carried out, the construction process and the main installations in the form of ventillation, lighting, safety, radiocommunications, accesses, etc.
